Kristie A Potwora

Inspired by the natural world

Born and raised near the redwood forests of Northern California, I have a deep and abiding respect for nature.  As a child, the coastal forests, shores, and meadows were my playground, with everything from bees to banana slugs to elk impressing me with wonder and fascination.  Those experiences shaped me both as a person and as an artist.

Environmental Biology was my first true love in education, and has persisted as a foundation for my art.  Through scientific illustration and printing layers, my work is an instinctive exploration of color, form, and pattern, a way to understand, honor, and connect with the world around me.

Reward comes in learning more about this amazing world and its inhabitants, and is often found, like buried treasure, in the deep layers of memory that emerge while I am creating.  The joy is in the process of discovery.
